Expanded ADHD Care at FMP – Launching June 1

FMP is launching a structured ADHD care pathway from June 1, 2026. Learn what the service includes, who it's for, what to expect at your appointment, and how to book.

ADHD Care at FMP Is Expanding: Here's What You Need to Know

From June 1, 2026, Family Medical Practices will offer a structured ADHD care pathway including assessment, diagnosis, and where clinically appropriate, medication initiation, delivered within general practice.

About this service

This pathway has been developed in line with NSW ADHD reforms and guidance from the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI). The GPs delivering this service have completed additional training in ADHD care. A smaller number hold Tier 2 prescriber status, which allows them to diagnose and initiate medication in appropriate patients.

Care is provided using structured, evidence-based assessment processes.

A neurodivergent-friendly environment

FMP's ADHD appointments are designed to support patients who may find healthcare settings difficult to navigate:

  • Quieter waiting spaces or the option to wait outside
  • Longer, structured appointment times
  • Clear communication at every step
  • A coordinated nurse and GP team approach

Who this service is for

This pathway is available for children, adolescents, and adults where ADHD is suspected, whether you are seeking a formal assessment, a diagnosis, or to discuss starting medication.

GP-led ADHD care is not suitable for all patients. Those with complex mental health conditions, significant medical complexity, substance use concerns, or children under 6 may require referral to a paediatrician or psychiatrist. If you are unsure whether this service is right for you, our team will help identify the most appropriate pathway.

What your appointments will look like

ADHD assessments involve two structured appointments:

Step 1: Nurse appointment (30 minutes)

Questionnaires, observations, measurements, and an ECG if indicated. Questionnaires must be completed before your appointment.

Step 2: GP consultation with Dr Hoffman or Dr Timms (45 to 60 minutes)

A comprehensive assessment followed by a discussion about next steps.

Please note:

  • Diagnosis may require more than one visit
  • Medication is not prescribed at the first appointment

Fees

ADHD appointments are privately billed. Bulk billing does not apply to this service. Medicare rebates may be available depending on individual eligibility. Please review the full fee schedule on our website before booking.

Ongoing ADHD care (available now)

If you have an existing ADHD diagnosis, many of our GPs already provide ongoing management and continuation prescribing under Tier 1 care. You do not need to wait until June 1 to access this.

How to book

Bookings open June 1. Appointments must be booked under the correct ADHD consultation type. Incorrectly booked appointments will need to be rescheduled.
